Oral Niacinamide Prevents Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer

Does Oral Niacinamide Prevents Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer?

Three hundred eighty-six Australian individuals with the mean age of 66, and at least 2 non-melanoma skin cancers in the previous 5 years were randomly assigned to receive, in a double-blind fashion, 500 mg of niacinamide orally twice daily or a placebo for 12 months. Participants were evaluated by dermatologists at a three-month interval for up to 18 months.

The study demonstrated the relationship between niacinamide and skin cancer, as it showed a dramatic decrease in basal cell, squamous cell, and actinic keratosis, a form of pre-skin cancer, of over 23 percent!

It appears that sunlight suppresses immune function, something called photoimmunosuppression. However, niacinamide also blocks this process and is well tolerated with little to no side effects.
