Inspiritol and COVID-19 Testing

Two years in the making, Dr. Salerno is announcing Inspiritol, a patent pending prescription compounded medication. Inspiritol is a natural liquid formulation inhaled using a nebulizer designed to improve breathing and energy levels for patients with respiratory health concerns. These conditions include COPD, asthma, as well as those suffering from difficulty breathing, including Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) brought on by respiratory-related viruses, such as COVID-19.

Dr. Salerno is also announcing that he conducts two COVID-19 tests available at his NYC and Fairfield, CT offices:

  • FDA Approved rapid (results in 10 minutes) COVID-19 IgG/IgM antibody test for antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Antibodies to the SARS-CoV-2 virus are generally detectable several days following infection. Require blood sample.
  • FDA Approved Fast Turnaround (<24 hours) COVID-19 Real Time PCR test. This PCR test detects active SARS-CoV-2 infection as early as 2 to 5 days post exposure. This test requires a nasal swab.
  • Dr. Salerno’s office will conduct both tests and are available by appointment only.

Inspiritol and the nebulizer in which it is used are available only through my office by prescription and is comprised of natural anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds prepared by a licensed compounding pharmacy.

The anti-oxidants in Inspiritol naturally scavenge harmful free radicals decreasing harmful cytokines in your lungs caused by respiratory diseases enabling you to reestablish a normal healthy balance between oxidants and antioxidants. The natural anti-inflammatories in Inspiritol are designed to turn off specific sensors in the upper and lower respiratory tracts that otherwise lead to a variety of inflammatory cytokines that are activated in viral infections, as well as COPD, asthma and from smoking.

Respiratory diseases can tip the normal healthy balance of antioxidants and oxidants normally existing in the lungs enabling excess oxidant free radicals to be formed that lead to inflammation, cell death, excess coughing and mucous development, congestion and difficulty breathing. In COVID-19 patients, shortness of breath, coughing and excess mucous in the respiratory tract decreases oxygenation of the blood and leads to much more serious cases of the viral infection, particularly in individuals with pre-existing conditions. In serious cases of COVID-19, respiratory impacts can spill over into other organ systems, including the lungs, heart, kidneys and liver, as well as forming blood clots. Dr. Salerno believes that it is critical to decrease impacts from respiratory diseases before they can affect other organs and this was one of the major reasons that Inspiritol was developed to directly target the lungs.

In patients with mild to moderate COPD and Asthma, inhaling Inspiritol rapidly increases the ability to breathe by clearing mucous and decreasing inflammation in the lungs and makes it easier to breathe. With those who have asthma Dr. Salerno has found that many people using Inspiritol report a decreased tightness in their chest making it easier to breath and have been able to decrease over time the use of steroids.

In patients suffering with the symptoms of COVID-19, Inspiritol works directly in the lungs and targets signaling proteins that create the cytokine and free radical storms helping COVID-19 patient’s lung fight off the severity of the disease. Because people with COPD or other respiratory diseases are at higher risk of experiencing more serious COVID-19 cases, getting your respiratory impacts more under control may decrease your risks if you do become infected with COVID-19.

For active smokers who breathe in large number of free radicals from smoking, this causes inflammation in your lungs, congestion and less effective oxygenation of your blood. In addition, cigarette smoke contains harmful heavy metals that can accumulate in the lungs over time. Inspiritol’s antioxidants are also very effective chelators of heavy metals that will help decrease their accumulation in your lungs and enable you to excrete them. Of course, quitting smoking is the most effective first step to decrease lung and heart damage by smoking, but if you cannot or have recently stopped smoking in the past few years, Inspiritol is designed to help mitigate some of that damage.
