OSR presents “Pause || Press Play>” an Art, Film & Spoken Word Collaborative at Columbia University | Barnard Hillel’s The Kraft Center, 606 W. 115th Street, NY 10025 9/11 Healing Arts Event Sept. 9th – 12th
This enlightening new film by Penny Little, “911: Dust and Deceit at the WTC”, exposes the environmental disaster of 9/11 through interviews with leading scientists, waste management specialists, government workers, volunteers, first responders, and the heroes and victims of the dust, which permeated the air after 9/11.
According to advanced medical analysis, the substances that were found in the dust include cement, asbestos, lead, mercury, gypsum, calcite, quartz, silicon, PCBs, and various elemental metals. Due to the extreme level of the fallout from the twin buildings collapse, many first responders are now left with chronic medical conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease, asthma, sinusitis, pneumonia, immune system problems, vitamin deficiencies, bronchial complications, and even cancer. Many of the complex medical issues these individuals are now faced with are a direct result of the dust inhaled during the search and rescue surveying.
In order to expose the reality of what took place, the film features Dr. John Salerno and numerous other health professionals and 9/11 first responders explaining the health consequences set into motion that day. After the initial terrorist bombings, Dr. Salerno served as the Medical Director for the World Trade Center Landfill, a position that earned him a commendation from then-mayor Rudy Giuliani. Throughout the extensive clean-up project, Dr. Salerno was in charge of monitoring the health of the public workers assigned to manage the landfill where toxic debris from the World Trade Center was transferred to.
Over the course of the film, US Congressman Jerrold Nadler, Dr. Lee Vickers, and numerous 9/11 rescue workers explain the dangers, concerns, and potential health problems. This film serves as a testament to the human spirit, and it is also a story of how important the health needs of the workers who served on 9-11 really are.
The schedule for the three-day event includes films, presentations and guest speakers who are experts in the fields of holistic health, healing, creativity, integrative arts, and education.
